Into The Light 2012

Whittlesea Showground's a sea of lanterns paraded around the grounds as part of the Into the Light project. The community has congregated to acknowledge and celebrate the end of a long, dark winter and the beginning of a light and hope-filled spring.

The 'Into the Light 2012 - the unfolding story' community art project has won the Active Arts Category of the National Awards for Local Government.

This award was presented by the Federal Government Department of Regional Australia, Local Government, Arts and Sports.

'Into the Light' saw more than 1300 people across the Kinglake Ranges join together in a lantern parade held on 1 September 2012, to reflect on the events of February 2009 and its aftermath.

The project aimed to use art to:

Over 1500 people were involved in the project, with 600 lanterns made by local children from 12 primary schools.
